FascinatingThis book was so well written。 One could not tell where it would take you。 I do not think there was anything I disliked about it。 I certainly did not know about these “code breakers” before now。

Everyone loves this book。 She’s one of my very favorite authors, her other two books being two of my favorite reads ever。 I could not get into this one after several tries。 The ladies were interesting enough, story lines great, good writing。 I have no idea why I couldn’t get into this but I just didn’t。 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kate Quinn does it again

Great characters。 Great twists。 A fabulous historical fiction。 Will add to my “reread” list!

This book was long (600+ pages) and I had a hard time getting into it during the first half, but the second half made up for it。 After reading I started researching the true stories, real events and real people that the book was based on and it fascinated me。 Not my favorite of Kate Quinn’s books but definitely worth reading。

Thoroughly enjoyed。 Certainly not fine literature, but it was a page-turner and I loved the three heroines!

Leslie Rusch

Light reading。 Nothing new about Bletchley (I have read a lot about it previously), but a fun stting for a story of relationships among women (and generally) during times of stress。 Very contrived, but a pleasant beach read。

Sheila Cohen

I loved this book。 The book is about women code breakers in London during WWII。

4。5 stars, Kate Quinn can do no wrong! I have enjoyed all her books and this was no exception。 The story follows three women, all recruited to work in Bletchley Park in different roles during World War II。 It was engrossing to read about the different responsibilities, the burden of secrecy and how vital the information was。 All of the characters were interesting and I was transported by the writing to this remarkable place in a terrible time。 0。5 stars off because I felt the book could have bee 4。5 stars, Kate Quinn can do no wrong! A very well-executed WWII fiction。 Unlike other reads, I would put my kindle down after a few hours each day so that I wouldn’t finish the book immediately。 I really wanted to savor each character’s story。 Looking forward to reading Kate Quinn’s other works!

Loved the historical context with the codebreaking and the overall plot but this was wayyy too long for me, I felt like I'd be reading quite a while and then my kindle would say my progress only went up 3% or something。 Seems like it could easily be trimmed back a bit without losing any value。 Loved the historical context with the codebreaking and the overall plot but this was wayyy too long for me, I felt like I'd be reading quite a while and then my kindle would say my progress only went up 3% or something。 Seems like it could easily be trimmed back a bit without losing any value。 。。。more

Loved the characters。 And the story was pretty amazing。 I would just say that at points it felt like it was dragging on as it was 600 pages or so。 I think it could’ve been done well in 500。

An amazing read!

The end was so suspenseful, I could hardly put it down。 I wish I had known several characters were based on real people before I started reading。 It really adds to the richness。 I really enjoyed this read。

Donna Hopkins

I absolutely loved this story。 It was completely fascinating and engrossing from the very start。 I love all three of the main characters。 Theses women were so well told。 This was a heartbreaking and amazing tale of courage, and grace in the face of adversity。 I highly recommend this novel。

Marie

Wonderful WWII historical novel。 Great characters, romance and friendship, spies and royalty! What else can we ask for? The writing is brilliant。

The jumps from one charachter to another was not done well and very disruptive to the flow of an important piece of history。

Very good historical fiction book about the code breakers of Bletchley Park。 Great characters, great story, and I liked the pacing and back and forth timeline。

Kate Quinn does not disappoint in this fascinating book。 A hard to put down type!

I loved this book!!!! The narration was incredible! This is historical fiction by the same author as The Alice Network loved that one too。 I lost two nights of sleep because I couldn’t stop listening。 Both teach about the role women played in the European theater in WW II and it was certainly educational。 Mostly, the story and characters are very interesting。 I didn’t understand a lot of how Beth and her co-workers did what they did, but it was fascinating。 Code breaking and translating skills w I loved this book!!!! Couldn’t get into this book - the characters just seemed very boy crazy。 I bought it in hardcover for my daughter as a gift and sneakily unwrapped it to read it first。 I hope she likes it more than I did!

We don't need that many chapters of it, it totally deflates the momentum and mystery。There were admittedly a couple of twists in the story that were well pulled off, but most of the time it seemed extremely obvious。 I did appreciate the authors description of how Beth's mind worked in it's neurodivergence,, however she was really villified in the last 3rd of the book and it made you no I didn't like the characters and rolled my eyes several times。Didn't like the dual timelines。 Just let it flow! Things definitely were rushed where other things are dragged out, and that is a shame。The bletherings 。。。 the constant mental letters in osla's head, that I could have had less of!Compared to her books The Huntress and The Alice Network, this is significantly not as good。 Hopefully the author's next attempts at a historical fiction mystery will be better with this experience under her belt。 What I did enjoy was the behind the scenes info of life at Bletchley。 Very interesting! 。。。more

Having been totally immersed in this book for several days (to the detriment of all that I should have been doing), I was initially inclined to join the hordes who have been giving 5 stars。 However I have some reservations。 I found the beginning a bit confusing as the various characters were introduced and the dual timelines set up。 For quite a while I also thought the novel was ill-timed, coming out so soon after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death, since I thought Philip was going to turn out to be Having been totally immersed in this book for several days (to the detriment of all that I should have been doing), I was initially inclined to join the hordes who have been giving 5 stars。 However I have some reservations。 I found the beginning a bit confusing as the various characters were introduced and the dual timelines set up。 For quite a while I also thought the novel was ill-timed, coming out so soon after the Duke of Edinburgh’s death, since I thought Philip was going to turn out to be a real cad。 That’s not a spoiler, as we know from the start that Osla’s lover is marrying Princess Elizabeth。 (Turns out he was not such a cad, but saying anything more *would* be a spoiler。) I think my main concern is that what should be the main plot —i。e。 the existence, discovery and exposure of a traitor—isn’t introduced until very late in the book (we know Beth is alleging something, but we don’t know what); the traitor’s confession (to a person considered insane, so who would believe her?) seems contrived; and when Beth breaks the code and proclaims “we’ve got him”, we don’t know exactly what she found to confirm the identity。 Nevertheless, as I said at the outset, I was totally engaged and really enjoyed the book。 。。。more

I had no idea about Bletchley Park or the work that was done there during World War II。 This historical-fiction did a great job of giving me some insight into what went on at BP and who the people working there were。 This book is equal parts funny, hopeful, devastating, thought-provoking, and sad。

The code breakers of Bletchley Park played a key role during WWII and Kate Quinn weaves a tale that honors their accomplishments and also reveals their sacrifices, patriotism and human frailty。 The relationship of three main characters, Osla, Mab and Beth, takes several twists as the years go by but their common bond holds them together in the end。 I found myself pulling for Beth’s character, the stereotypical underdog , to attain a happy ending。 Kate also highlights the Brit’s love and fascinat The code breakers of Bletchley Park played a key role during WWII and Kate Quinn weaves a tale that honors their accomplishments and also reveals their sacrifices, patriotism and human frailty。 The relationship of three main characters, Osla, Mab and Beth, takes several twists as the years go by but their common bond holds them together in the end。 I found myself pulling for Beth’s character, the stereotypical underdog , to attain a happy ending。 Kate also highlights the Brit’s love and fascination for the royal family by linking Phillip romantically to a BP’er prior to his engagement to Elizabeth。 I appreciated Kate Quinn’s notes at the end of the book that explained her inspiration for the tale and delineated fact from fiction。 。。。more
